Hon. Yaovi Agbegnigan Calls on Comorian Youth to Lead the Fight Against Climate Change

Moroni, December 5, 2025 – The international conference “My Country in the Face of Climate Change,” held at the Retaj Hotel in Moroni from December 4 to 7, brought together environmental leaders, experts, and activists from across Africa. Among the standout contributions was the speech by Hon. Yaovi Agbegnigan, journalist, diplomat, and international cooperation consultant, who delivered a compelling call for immediate and collective action against climate change.

Africa on the Frontline of Climate Change

“Climate change is no longer a distant threat. In Africa, it is visible, it is felt, and it is often painful,” Agbegnigan began. He highlighted the increasing frequency of droughts, floods, disrupted farming cycles, and coastal erosion as stark evidence of the continent’s vulnerability.

He also addressed the issue of climate injustice, noting that Africa, despite its minimal contribution to global greenhouse gas emissions, bears the brunt of climate impacts. According to Agbegnigan, these changes now threaten food security, public health, economic stability, and social cohesion.

A Strong Call to Comorian Youth

Focusing on the Comoros, he urged the younger generation to take decisive action. “You stand at the heart of this battle. You must not inherit a dying land, but a living one. Innovation, awareness-raising, and investment in green solutions are no longer optional  they are essential,” he asserted.

Agbegnigan also called on political leaders, institutions, and development partners to move beyond rhetoric and implement ambitious, long-term climate policies.

Practical Steps for Immediate Action

Rejecting despair, he outlined practical measures within reach: reforestation, the expansion of solar energy, responsible waste management, protection of water resources, and the promotion of environmental education.

“This fight belongs to everyone  in markets, schools, neighborhoods, homes, and places of worship. No one is too small to make a difference,” he emphasized.

Choosing a Sustainable Future Today

In closing, Hon. Agbegnigan framed climate action as a moral and practical choice: between awareness and indifference, protection and destruction, legacy and regret. “Protecting the environment means protecting humanity. Protecting nature means protecting the future,” he concluded.

Through this powerful address, Hon. Yaovi Agbegnigan connected global climate challenges to local responsibility, placing Comorian youth at the forefront of Africa’s efforts toward climate resilience and sustainable development.
